Exploration of Antarctica
Antarctica was the last of the continents to be discovered.
During early civilization the Greeks thought that there must be some landmass at the bottom of the earth to balance the landmass found at the top of the earth.
The name Antarctica come from the Greek word - Antarktikos (opposite the bear). This means the opposite of Arctic (the great bear or big dipper constellation found in the northern hemisphere).
